So, you asked. What's so great about AATC?

Animal-assisted therapy (AAT) involves the use of trained animals to provide therapeutic benefits to individuals struggling with various physical, emotional, and mental health issues.

At NYU, AATC events have gained popularity among students as a non-invasive and effective way to improve their overall well-being.

Academic Performance Anxiety

NYU students may feel overwhelmed by the demands of their coursework and extracurricular activities. Interacting with animals can help with that.

Non-stressful Socials

Animal-assisted therapy can also help students improve their social skills and build connections through group activities.

Reconnect with the Scenery

Studies have shown that interacting with animals can help reduce stress and anxiety levels. Through reorienting, you can see something new.

Health Booster

Animal-assisted therapy has been shown to improve physical health, reduce depression, and enhance overall well-being.

What we do?

NYU students can learn about animal-assisted therapy (AAT) through the student-run Animal Assisted Therapy Club (AATC). The group provides opportunities for discussion, guest speakers, and animal interactions. AAT is used in various settings, from rehabilitation to providing emotional comfort, and has been found to lower depression and anxiety. AATC collaborates with New York City agencies that use AAT interventions, such as New York Therapy Animals, to provide students with hands-on experience. Meetings are held bi-weekly and are open to all NYU students.

Why Us

The NYU dorm has limited capacity for support animals. Your roommate maybe allergic to animal fur. You just left your animal friend Cookie dough back at home. It's the second months into the semester, and you wish you can pet something.

Events

Therapy dogs, therapy bunnies, therapy guinea pigs... We try to have them all!
You can also just hop in to join us at one of our animal-themed movie screenings.
